What are the men's fashion shows of Paris? Well, let's put it this way: Did you see a lot of menswear during the other shows? Neither did we. And boy, we were miffed. Then we were hurt. Then we came to a place of peace about it. Then we were miffed again. Then, just sad. Then we realized we'd just omitted to realize there was a men's show. Then we were just miffed at ourselves. Then, finally, we realized we were probably cool about it all along. Eh.

"Menswear" means stuff guys like. Not necessarily "men." Dudes, for example. Though maybe dudes are men, too. We're not sure, to be honest. Though it IS a scintillating question. The cool thing about males in general is that they wear clothes, too, mostly for legal reasons. They might wear, oh, say a tie. Or shoes. Or a hat, if they traveled backwards to the past, or possibly to the future. They probably wear slacks. No, we're pretty sure about that one. And shirts, sometimes with things called "buttons" (we did some research on this), and other times with no buttons, which sort of looks naked after you're seen the buttons in action. They wear pajamas, too, though you don't usually see these on the runway. And if they're a really cool guy, they probably wear a tasteful fragrance, maybe something with oud by Kilian or even something like 10 Corso Como that's listed as a fragrance for women but really isn't.You crazy men!

There are nice hotels on the Left Bank, Right Bank, in the 7th district (they call them "arrondissements," even though "district" would be shorter to write), Latin Quarter, and other places more or less. You may want tickets to the Louvre, though you probably shouldn't waste your time in Paris in line. Really Paris is best for food and time wasting, like sitting at a sidewalk cafe, going into boutiques on the Avenue Montaigne pretending you can afford something, sitting for long periods on a park bench, which is only acceptable in Paris, and looking for antiques, fashionable designer clothing and giant sunglasses, shopping at BHV or the farmer's market or buying gourmet gifts at Fauchon, and eating a bunch of stuff you'd be killed for by your friends back home. You may also want fancy cheeses and wine. Okay, we admit we like Paris, even if it is small, old and sort of dirty in places. It just works, darn it. Oh, and dear Parisians: ban spray paint, citywide. Seriously.

Fashion Week begins with New York, then goes to London, Milan, Paris, Los Angeles then Tokyo. We hope to add to this information with events and a full calendar as they develop. Note: For future seasons we use New York dates (which are already decided) to create a "most likely" estimate based on past history. This is a fancy way of saying the other cities tend to follow one another. W00t.

Things you might see at Fashion Week, you lucky person: luxury cars; luxury watches; vacation getaways; jimmy choo shoes (whatever those are); designer handbags by louis vuitton; models walking from agencies like ford models, elite model management, la models; supermodels (yeah right!); movie stars and music celebrities (god help you); some guy wearing a rolex or driving a bmw, mercedes or maybe even a porsche to impress girls; designs from famous name brand designers like prada, gucci, armani, burberry, marc jacobs, calvin klein (maybe?), um london fog (maybe not?), project runway (if they're lucky), tom ford, chanel, christian dior, elsa schiaparelli, ralph lauren, yves saint laurent, janie bryant and uh ... what's the name that does the mod stuff? oh right, ben sherman. And after you're finished reading this (we respect you!), why not see some live fashion shows online?

Things you may need for fashion week: cheap tickets, cheap airfare, a bed and breakfast, hotel, motel, apartment rental, dining reviews, ratings or restaurant reservations, trip and travel advice, an umbrella, a tour guide or travel book, a digital camera or video camcorder, decent wallet, handbag or purse, jacket, rain poncho, makeup, cosmetics, health or travel insurance, travel guidebook, spa treatment, hair dressing appointment, hair products, ipod and ipad accessories, fashion guidebook, not to mention good shoes.
